HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. (July 6, 2002) - Capital Speedway honored it's Pro-Modified drivers Saturday night with a front stretch introduction and short interview before the start of the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge feature event. Just prior to the introductions the speedway put on a huge Fireworks display for the fans. After the pre-race ceremonies seventeen drivers took the green flag for the twenty five lap main event. Hometown favorite, Curt Rackers, took the first lap lead and outran the field to score his seventh feature victory of the 2002 season at Capital Speedway. Other feature race winners were Jamie Carter from Jefferson City, Danny Crane from Columbia and Richard 'Cooter' Payne also from Holts Summit. Saturday's races were sponsored by Budweiser with the Bud Girls making the trophy presentations to the winners.

The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge Pro-Modified feature win went to Curt Rackers but it wasn't an easy run for the checkers. Darin Walker pressured Rackers early in the race but the high groove wouldn't hold enough bite for Walker to hang on. Shannon Frank moved into second until Steve Payne came charging from deep in the pack to overtake him for that spot. Once in second Payne closed slightly on Rackers but could never mount enough of a charge to catch the leader. The battle for second stayed intense right to the finish as Payne, Walker, Frank and even Rick Kimberling fought for the position. Following Rackers across the line it was Payne in second, Frank in third, Kimberling in fourth and Walker in fifth. The next five spots went to Howard Hall in sixth, David Payne in seventh, Brian Phillips in eighth, Robbie Knaebel in ninth and Roger Edwards in tenth.

The NASCAR Weekly Racing Series ShorTrack Modified feature victory went to Jamie Carter, after fifteen laps of total domination. Carter burst out to the first lap lead and sailed to a huge advantage over the rest of the field. After Carter's show of power to take the win the only thing left to decide was the runner-up spot. Three drivers battled the whole race for that position, Kevin Propst, Kevin Stark and Brad Pfeiffer. There was a couple of mishaps at the start of the race bringing out the caution light before the first lap was completed but once the race got started it was ran without any other slow-downs which made for an exciting battle for second. Propst had second for several laps before yielding to Pfeiffer who lost the position to Stark in the final couple of laps. Stark maintained his points lead in the Modified division with his second place finish. Pfeiffer took third, Propst finished fourth and Eddie Schoenfeld had his best finish this season with a fifth place run. Rounding out the top ten was Roger Edwards in sixth, Andy Payne in seventh, John Bennett in eighth, Mike Witt II in ninth and Keith Fisher in tenth.

Capital Speedway's Limited Late Model feature race was a very exciting race for the fans to watch. Danny Crane and Scott Middaugh took turns leading the race before Crane jumped to the high groove late in the race and pulled out the victory. Crane said after the victory he knew he couldn't win by following the leader so he tried a different line and it paid off with the victory. Middaugh held on to finish second just ahead of a fast charging Virgil Jeffery who took third. Marion Hooten raced to the fourth spot, Kevin Vandelicht finished in fifth and John Vandelicht was sixth at the finish. The Capital Speedway Super Stock victory went to Richard 'Cooter' Payne after a race long battle with Spencer Barnard and Jimmy Ott. The three drivers opened up a small advantage over the rest of the field as they battled for the lead. Ott led for the first half of the race with Barnard tucked in close behind. Those two drivers used the high groove while Payne charged around the bottom groove of the track. Several times during the race they would come off the corner three wide for the lead. Payne edged ahead of Ott just past the halfway point of the race and then held on to take the victory. Ott and Barnard fought hard for the runner-up spot, with Ott taking the honor and Barnard taking third. The Super Stock point standings shows these three drivers in the top three spots, Payne in first, Barnard in second and Ott in third. Closing fast on the leaders was Don Matthess who took fourth. Chris Luther ran strong all race long to record the fifth spot. Derek Rumble finished sixth, Willie Bungart raced to seventh, Jim Schoenfeld ran eighth, Danny Byler was ninth and Jeff Duncan rounded out the top ten spots.
