Saturday, June 2, 2012 Haddenham Claims Maverik Modifed Event at Rocky Mountain Raceways

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- Tonight the Maverik Modifieds proved why they are Rocky Mountain Raceways feature class with competitive, fast racing. Veteran racers battled for position throughout the 50-lap race; gaining power in the corners and carrying momentum through the straight-aways.
#84 Mark Ith Jr. started the race out strong in front of the pack, but by lap 10 he exited the track with mechanical issues leaving the first place position to #9 Jeremy Eaton. #41 Michael Haddenham quickly pulled ahead of Eaton claiming the lead. Eaton didn’t back down easily and gave chase to Haddenham with #79 Jeffrey Webster close on his tail in third.
Starting in seventh #01 Michael Hale gradually moved his way to the top-five, progressing on the inside groove to fourth by lap 25. #50 Roger Wilson raced hard to the fifth position, holding off a determined Lynn Hardy in the #4 Maverik Modified.
In the last half of the race, the Maverik Modifieds showed their exceptional racing ability. In lap 39, Webster built force through the backstretch overtaking Eaton for the second position. Hale held third place briefly before being overtaken by Wilson and Hardy on the inside of turn 2.
Haddenham took home his first win of the 2012 Maverik Modified season with Webster in a close second, Wilson in third, Hardy in fourth and Hale rounding out the top-five. Tonight’s race puts Hale atop the points with #00 Tyler Whetstone just fifty-six points behind in second. Hardy currently sits third in points, eighty points behind Hale. The Maverik Modifieds will return to the ASA Sanctioned America First Credit Union Super Oval on Saturday, June 9 for a double main event.
The CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series Late Models had their fourth race of their 2012 season. In lap 1, #03 Steve Jones got caught up in a caution, ending his night. On the restart, #98 Rick Fowble pulled ahead with #15 Robert Hirschbock in second and #1 John Nesmith in third. By lap 27, Nesmith pressed to the front, holding off #4 Lynn Hardy.
Unexpectedly Hardy’s car stopped in lap 56, bringing the field to a restart. Nesmith was able to stay out front; taking the checkered flag ahead of #92 Bruce Quale in second, #90 Trevor Cristiani in third, #99 Tyler Bailey in fourth and #19 Morgan Rasmussen in fifth. This is Nesmith’s first CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series win at Rocky Mountain Raceways. “We had a really good car and I have to thank my crew,” says Nesmith of the win. The CarbonX Rocky Mountain Challenge Series will return to Rocky Mountain Raceways on Saturday, July 7th.
