Saturday, November 1, 2003 Newlywed Perkins wins Red Bluff from front row
by Race AuthorRED BLUFF, Calif. -- Celebrating his early October marriage, winged sprint car racer Beau Perkins turned his front row start into a feature win in the Open Outlaw Kart A Main Saturday night as the Red Bluff Indoor Winter Season continued. Forced to run the B Main, fast timer Brian McCain won that and then drove through the pack in the A Main to finish second behind Perkins and ahead of younger brother Tyler McCain, the pole starter. Oregon's Chadd Noland started the night fourth in points in the Open Intermediate action, but enjoyed a big night with wins in both his heat race and the feature. Tyler Ritcheson and Micah Parmer chased Noland to the checkered flag in the feature action. Derek Copeland also turned a front row start into a win in the 125 Intermediate A Main as he timed in 8th fast and won his heat race. It was a night of seconds for point title contender Kyle Larson as he timed in 2nd, ran 2nd in his heat and 2nd behind Copeland in the feature race. Former champion Derek Kennemore won the Box Stock A Main ahead of fast timer Andrew Anderson and point leader Keith Bloom Jr. Locked in a tight duel with Cyle Allison and Tyler Seavey for the Beginner Box Stock early season point lead, Nevada's Kellcy Bell capped a big night with another feature win. She turned in fast time, ran third in the dash, second in her heat and first in the A Main. T Seavey ran second ahead of David Lee as incoming point leader Allison ran fifth behind James Edens. Clarence Marshall continued his domination of the new F200 class, but this week fast time eluded him. He timed in third quick, but won the dash, heat and feature. Newcomer Mike Larnolds was second fast and ran second in both the heat and feature.
B McCain was the quickest of this week's 48 Open Outlaw racers with a 8.901 qualifying run. Incoming point leader Robbie Whitchurch clicked off a 8.905 and veteran Chuck Herman a 8.971. Steven Gannon was the final 8 second qualifier at 8.995. Sixth quick Michael Hubert III won the dash ahead of Whitchurch and B McCain. At Red Bluff, the field is divided into five qualifying heat races and a top two finish is needed to move into the A Main action. This is especially tough for the faster qualifiers and the 8 fastest all failed on this night. T McCain beat Bryan Eady and B McCain in heat 1. David Wilson and Dannie Ferro ran 1-2 in heat 2 and Oregon's Joe Weststeyn outraced Eureka's Troy Combs in heat 3. Another older racer David Lewallen won heat 4 ahead of new sprint car sensation Sean Becker. Perkins won heat 5 ahead of Oregon's Richard Weststeyn. The top four finishers in the hotly contested B Main also advance into the A and B McCain won that event ahead of Herman, S Gannon and Hubert III. Whitchurch just missed with a fifth ahead of Daniel Becker and Oregon's Mike Wheeler. Whitchurch, D Becker and Wheeler had run 1-2-3 in the C Main and Tyler Schohr was the D Main winner ahead of Bubba Hill and Josh Chartier. The fastest heat race transfers are inverted at the front of the A Main grid and front row starters Perkins and T McCain dueled for the win. B McCain joined the mix late in the action and Perkins won ahead of B McCain, T McCain, S Gannon, S Becker, Herman, Hubert III, R Weststeyn and J Weststeyn.
Taylor Simas also broke into the 8 second bracket as he paced the 15 Open Intermediates in time trials with a 8.994 lap. Incoming point leader Brett Miller was second quick at 9.034 and Parmer ran a 9.070 lap. Tyler Ritcheson was fourth quick ahead of Noland and female ace Reyna Krueger. Krueger took dash honors ahead of Noland and Ritcheson. Noland beat Parmer and Simas in heat 1 and 2nd ranked point racer Justin Reinolds beat Ritcheson in heat 2. In the feature, it was Noland on top of Ritcheson, Parmer, Reinolds, Cody Braund, Krueger, Miller, Steven Rogers and Brent Hamilton.
Dillon Silverman has turned into a great qualifier and he paced the 24 entries in the 125 Intermediate class with a 8.975 run. Larson ran a 9.032 and point leader Rudger Worley a 9.135. Sixth quick Mason Moore won the dash with Michael Forslund second. Silverman captured heat one over McKinleyville's Ryan Gomes and Derek O'Bannon. Copeland beat Larson and rapidly improving Allie Moore in heat 2. Worley captured heat 3 over Jonny Lentz and Nevada's MacKena Bell. The B Main action found M Moore the winner over Klint Simpson and Jacob Park. Copeland shared the front row with M Bell and won the A Main ahead of Larson, O'Bannon, Forslund, M Bell, Worley, Simpson, Gomes and Nevada's Christian Steele. Copeland started the night fifth in points.
Ukiah's Anderson was quickest of the 33 Box Stock entries at 9.736 as Jason Mittry ran a 9.824. Derek Kennemore was third at 9.845 and Tyler Reddick ran a 9.873. Andy Menne beat Derek Kennemore and Reddick in the dash. This division runs four heats and transfers the top 3 into the A Main. Chase Hill beat Casey McClain in heat 1 and Raymond Close outraced Menne in heat 2. Jesse Taylor and Cycleland champion Brad Patchen were 1-2 in heat 3 and Bloom Jr won heat 4 over Matthew Morrison. The top four in the B Main also advance and Jesse Red won that event over David Chaves and Jacob Miller. Riley Gomes had won the C Main ahead of Nicholas Bellamy and Riley King. In the A main, it was Derek Kennemore on top of 4th ranked Anderson, point leader Bloom and 3rd ranked Hill. A long tow from Fort Jones, Menne ran fifth ahead of McClain and Reddick. Second ranked Patchen lost ground to Bloom with a 13th place run.
K Bell led 26 entries in the Beginner Box Stock class with a 10.829 qualifying run. The only other entry in the 10's was point leader Allison at 10.997. T Seavey ran a 11.189 and David Lee a 11.281. Sixth quick Logan Taylor won the dash ahead of T Seavey and K Bell. This division limits the A Main to 12 entries so only the top 3 advance from each heat. Wesley Dougherty beat K Bell in heat 1 and Tony Marcos edged out Allison in heat 2. L Taylor added to his dash win with a victory in heat 3 over Katina Baker. T Seavey just missed advancing from the heat action with a 4th, moved up from the B Main with a 3rd behind David Lee and C Main winner Bryce Perry. T Seavey just edged his younger brother Logan Seavey for that last transfer. Perry won the C Main ahead of Taylor Matson and Brandon White. In the A Main, it was K Bell winning ahead of T Seavey, David Lee, Santa Rosa's Edens, Allison, Tanner Thompson and Dougherty.
Keaven Seavey was the quickest of the five F200 racers at 10.08 and Larnolds ran a 10.488. Point leader Marshall had a 10.489 and won the dash over Jeremy Zirkle. Marshall and Larnolds ran 1-2 in the heat and feature with Gary Gabel third in the main event ahead of Zirkle and Seavey. After racing on November 8 and November 15, the Red Bluff schedule has two off weekends before racing the first 3 Saturdays in December. Remember that the track is now racing more of the program before the 6 PM dashes and shooting for a 9 PM finish each show.
