RED BLUFF, Calif. -- A track regular despite having to make the often tough tow from Fort Jones, Matt Menne turned a front row start into a feature win Saturday night in the Open Outlaw Karts as the Red Bluff Indoor Winter Season continued. After timing in 16th quick, Menne won his heat race and ended up being the fifth fastest qualifier to advance through the heat action. An early rainout of the USAC Ford Focus race in Hanford allowed Ryan Kaplan to join the action and he ran second behind Menne and ahead of the brother duo of Daniel Becker and Sean Becker. Justin Reinolds started the night six points back of Open Intermediate point leader Chadd Noland, but his near sweep will elevate him into the top spot. Reinolds posted quick time, ran second to Noland in the dash and then won both his heat race and the feature. Noland lost little ground as timed sixth fast, won his heat and placed fifth in the feature. Third ranked Brett Miller was second in the feature ahead of Cody Braund. 125 Intermediate point leader Rudger Worley also had an impressive night as he posted quick time and won the main event. Jonny Lentz had his strongest run in his new class with a 2nd ahead of second ranked Kyle Larson. In the Box Stocks, point leader Keith Bloom Jr added to his advantage with a feature win as fast timer Brad Patchen ran second ahead of dash winner Tyler Reddick. Locked in a three way duel for the Beginner Box Stock point leader, Tyler Seavey won their feature race with point leader Kellcy Bell from Nevada in second. Clarence Marshall added yet another feature win in the new F200 class. Mike Larnolds was second ahead of Gary Gabel.

Starting the evening 16 points back of point leader Robbie Whitchurch, Steven Gannon paced the 49 Open Outlaws in time trials with his 8.804 lap. Bryan Eady ran a 8.865 and current sprint car star S Becker was third at 8.870. Oregon’s Joe Weststeyn and Whitchurch rounded out the top quick five with the fastest 15 all breaking into the 8 second bracket. Whitchurch took dash honors ahead of S Gannon and Kyle Cattanach. The highly competitive five heat races advance just the top two finishers into the A Main. M Menne beat Pete Johnston in the first heat and Keith Hill outraced Chuck Herman in heat 2. S Becker and D Becker were 1-2 in heat 3 and Tyler McCain edged out Michael Hubert III in heat 4. Kaplan was victorious in heat 5 over Whitchurch. The final four A Main starters come from the B Main were S Gannon won ahead of previous week feature winner Beau Perkins and C Main winner Cattanach. Brian McCain gained the last spot with a 4th ahead of Jason Schuppert and Eureka’s Troy Combs. B McCain, Shelby Blaisdell and Kelly McCanless had chased Cattanach to the checkered flag in the C Main and Mickey Franco beat Danny Tompkins and Bubba Hill in the D Main. With the six fastest heat race transfers inverted in the front, the 14 kart A Main grid found K Hill and M Menne in row 1 ahead of Kaplan, D Becker, Whitchurch and S Becker. M Menne won with Kaplan second ahead of D Becker, S Becker, back row starter Cattanach, B McCain, S Gannon, Hubert, Perkins and T McCain.

J Reinolds was the only Open Intermediate to crack the 8’s as he ran a 8.863 to pace a 14 kart field. Tyler Ritcheson ran a 9.009 and Micah Parmer a 9.040. Brent Hamilton was fourth at 9.083. Sixth quick Noland, a weekly long tow from the Medford OR area, won the dash from the pole with J Reinolds charging through the field for second. J Reinolds beat Parmer and Miller in heat 1 and Noland won heat 2 over Hamilton and William Lyons. J Reinolds completed his great night with a feature win ahead of Miller, Braund, Hamilton, Noland, Steven Rogers, Jerryd Stanley and Parmer.

Worley was quickest of the 21 125’s with his 9.041 clocking. Derek Copeland had a 9.061 and Larson ranked third at 9.090. McKinleyville’s Ryan Gomes ran a 9.174 and Lentz ripped off a 9.204. Lentz beat Larson and Nevada’s MacKena Bell in the dash. Mason Moore won heat 1 over Lentz and Worley. Gomes outraced fast improving Amanda Reinolds and Derek O’Bannon in heat 2. The top five in each heat advanced. A quarter-midget graduate who is dominating the small fields at Chico, Justin Grant made a quick tow north to Red Bluff after his latest Chico win and ran 7th in his heat race. Grant continued to impress with a 2nd behind Copeland in the B Main. Andrew Cumpton and Allie Moore also advanced. The feature action found Worley winning ahead of Lentz, Larson, Copeland, Gomes and A Reinolds as Grant ran 8th behind O’Bannon.

Cycleland champion Patchen paced 32 Box Stocks with his 9.859 lap. Jason Mittry had a 9.894 and Nicholas Bellamy turned in a 9.942. The final 9 second qualifiers were Ukiah’s Andrew Anderson and Bloom. Pole starter Reddick won the dash ahead of Bloom and Patchen. Four heat races advanced three karts each. Andy Menne beat Patchen in heat 1 and Bloom won heat 2 over Mittry. Casey McClain and former champion Derek Kennemore were 1-2 in heat 3 as the 8 slowest qualifiers were placed in heat 4. James Crowell won that event over Leana Kenyon and Trevor Tennison. Doug Kennemore was the C Main winner ahead of David Chaves and Jonathan Hoheisel. Raymond Close raced his way into the A Main with a B Main win ahead of N Bellamy, Jesse Taylor, Jesse Red, Riley Gomes and R J Johnson. Bloom posted the A Main victory over Patchen, Reddick, N Bellamy, Red, Taylor, Chase Hill and Crowell. Bloom started the night with a six point lead on both Hill and Anderson with Derek Kennemore one more point back in fourth.

The Bell-Seavey duel started in time trials for the 22 Beginner Box Stocks. K Bell ran a 11.070 and T Seavey a 11.095. That easily paced the 11.350 for third ranked Cyle Allison. Logan Taylor had a 11.458 and Wesley Dougherty was fifth quick. Dougherty won the dash ahead of Allison and K Bell. Taylor beat K Bell and Katina Baker in heat 1 with Tony Marcos edging out T Seavey in heat 2. Jake Morgan outraced Allison and Logan Seavey in heat 3. The top 3 from each heat advance and Thomas Bellamy followed up a 4th place heat run with a B Main win ahead of David Lee, Tanner Thompson and Chase Majdic. T Seavey took the A Main honors ahead of K Bell, Taylor, Dougherty, Morgan, L Seavey, Lee and Allison. The new F200 class grew to six karts with Jeremy Zirkle the quickest at 10.772. Marshall ran a 10.854 and Keaven Seavey a 10.947. Fifth quick Gabel won the dash over Marshall. Zirkle and Marshall were 1-2 in the heat race. Marshall remained undefeated in the feature action as he won ahead of Larnolds, Gabel, Keaven Seavey, Zirkle and newcomer James Matson. Larnolds is actually a kart shared by kart owners Mike Larson and Mike Reinolds. They are also going to let other people wheel the kart also with Reinolds this week’s driver.

Remember that Red Bluff takes a Thanksgiving break and is dark for both Nov 22 and Nov 29 before returning to race the first 3 Saturdays in December.
