Saturday, December 13, 2003 Morgan, Larson collect Red Bluff wins
by Race AuthorRED BLUFF, Calif. -- Leading every lap and fighting off a strong challenge from fast timer and point leader Kellcy Bell, Jake Morgan won Saturday night’s 25 lap A Main event for the Beginner Box Stock division as the Red Bluff Winter Indoor Season continued. The busy Morgan splits his time between the outlaw karts and quarter-midgets and is the son of winged sprint car racer Gary Morgan. The point title fight between Bell, Cyle Allison and Tyler Seavey remained tight as T Seavey ran third behind Bell and Allison battled to a 4th after having to come through the C and B Mains. Given a second chance to wheel the F200 class kart that he shares with partner Mike Reinolds and the rest of the karting world, Mike Larson led the final 14 laps to score a win in the 20 lap feature for that class. Larson is father of and crew chief for Elk Grove star racer Kyle Larson. Fast timer Jeremy Zirkle ran second of heat winner Kenny Bellamy.
The Beginner Box Stock count improved to 27 karts and Allison snapped Bell’s season long strangle hold on fast time honors as he ran a 11.855 lap compared to the 11.902 effort of 8 year old Bell. T Seavey was third quick at 11.932 and Morgan ranked fourth with his 12.020 lap. When Logan Taylor, Morgan and Allison all tangled dueling for the lead in the dash, Bell was able to drive around the incident and win. T Seavey ran second ahead of Allison. Allison was forced to race the C Main after crashing with Katina Baker while dueling for the lead in heat 1. Logan Seavey won that race ahead of Chase Majdic. Running a Predator Motor, Bell won heat 2 with Lain Baker taking the second transfer with a late pass of Taylor. Wesley Dougherty won heat 3 ahead of Thomas Bellamy and the flying Morgan lapped fourth place while capturing heat 4. Tony Marcos ran second ahead of Tanner Thomson. The C Main action saw K Baker, Allison, Jake Back and visitor Wyatt Smith advance by finishing 1-2-3-4. T Seavey was a wire to wire winner in the 20 lap B Main, Allison broke into the top 4 on lap 13 and battled his way to second with a lap 17 pass of Taylor. Taylor ran third ahead of David Lee and K Baker. Both Back and Smith flipped in a lap 4 incident. The 25 lap A Main had a four kart inversion and Morgan raced into a quick lead over W Dougherty and L Baker. L Baker spun on lap 2 and Bell was third in just 3 laps. Bell took second from W Dougherty on lap 4 and Allison spun for a lap 6 yellow flag. On the restart, W Dougherty spun out of third as Marcos gained that spot ahead of T Seavey and L Seavey. Lee and L Baker tangled for a lap 11 yellow flag and T Seavey had passed Marcos for third. Allison rebounded to sixth on lap 15, passing L Seavey and Marcos to climb into fourth on lap 19. Bell was able to pull alongside Morgan in lapped traffic on lap 22, but Morgan found the quicker line through the slower karts and improved his advantage up to the checkered flag. Bell ran second ahead of T Seavey, Allison, L Seavey, Taylor, Marcos, Bellamy and W Dougherty.
The new F200 class again had ten entries and Zirkle was quickest at 11.163. Usual pavement modified racer Clarence Reddick filled in for Alyssa Hogan and timed in second quick at 11.181. Andy Compton filled in for point leader Clarence Marshall and was third quick at 11.221 with Larson fourth fast at 11.331. K Bellamy won the lone heat race over Robert Seavey and Compton. Reddick won the dash with Seavey second ahead of Zirkle. Reddick spun on the first lap of the 20 lap main event. Jim Matson led the first lap before Seavey took over. Larson was third on lap 3 and he gained second with a spin by Matson on lap 4. After leading through lap 6, Seavey spun and Larson was the new leader ahead of Zirkle, Bellamy and Paul Baker. They ran in that order with no cautions after lap 4. Matson fell out late as Larson won ahead of Zirkle, Bellamy, Baker, Compton, Reddick and Gary Gabel. Karl Pavlik Jr was a main event scratch.
The December 20th race will close out the 2003 portion of the 2003-4 season and will be a big double point show that could have a major impact on the Beginner Box Stock championship fight.
