Saturday, January 10, 2004 Silverman, Hill and Bell post perpetual trophy victories
by Race AuthorRED BLUFF, Calif. -- Having scored his first ever feature win at the close of the 2003 Cycleland Speedway season, Dillon Silverman picked a big night to get his first ever Red Bluff victory as he won one year's possession of the prestigious six foot tall perpetual trophy in the 125 Intermediate class with his Saturday night win ahead of fast timer Jonny Lentz and red hot Mason Moore. Lentz was the perpetual trophy winner in the Box Stock class in 2003. Silverman runs a Joey Hubbard chassis and is sponsored by MAACO of Chico and Terry Ives motors. Having opened the day with a string of second place finishes, Chase Hill was the perpetual trophy winner in the 30 lap Box Stock A Main. Hill timed in 2nd quick, ran second to Jason Mittry in the dash and placed 2nd in his heat race. Dustin Jenkins had his best finish of the 2003-2004 season with a second in the feature behind Hill and ahead of Ukiah's Andrew Anderson. Having seen her point lead cut to just 3 points by closest challenger Cyle Allison, Kellcy Bell from Carson City NV rebounded with a big night that included fast time for the 9th time in 10 races and a feature win that put her name on the perpetual trophy for the Beginner Box Stock class. Bell became the first female racer to ever win on the perpetual trophy night in Red Bluff history. Her father Kelly Bell finished top five in the Open Outlaw class all six years that he raced in Carson City and Kellcy's racing is sponsored by Predator Motors, K Bell Tile and Marble, Olson Heating and Air, Scotty's Paint Etc, Joe the Chromer and Vital Signs. Previous week winner Tyler Seavey had closed to within 15 points of Bell and he ran a strong second in the main event ahead of fast improving Chase Majdic, who came from 10th starting. Paul Baker made it five feature wins in the new F200 class as he edged out Mike Larson in the feature action with point leader Clarence Marshall in third.
Lentz was the quickest of the 25 125's with his 8.520 lap. Moore ranked second at 8.650 and point leader Kyle Larson was third quick at 8.673. Larson added to his point lead as closest challenger Rudger Worley struggled to a 17th fast ranking. The older sister of the Beginner Box Stock feature winner, Mackena Bell timed in fifth quick behind a returning Matt DiBenedetto and won the dash ahead of Larson. Sixth quick Silverman was fourth in the dash. The division raced three heat races, moving the top 3 into the A Main. Derek O'Bannon edged out Lentz in heat 1 and Moore captured heat 2 ahead of Worley and Bell. Silverman won heat 3 with improving Amanda Reinolds in second ahead of Derek Copeland. Larson missed the transfer with a fifth in his heat, but won the B Main in front of Ryan Gomes, Chico dominator Justin Grant and Michael Forslund. Andrew Cumpton rounded out the transfers in fifth ahead as Allie Moore and Jacob Park just missed. A Moore had won the C Main ahead of Brandey Eiler and Brian Southers. Silverman was a wire to wire winner in the A Main. Bell provided a strong challenge, but her outside groove bid to take the lead from Silverman in the closing rounds saw her run out of racing room and collect the fence. Bell had to restart in the rear and Silverman drove to his first indoor feature win ahead of Lentz, M Moore, Cody Miller, Grant, Worley, Copeland, A Reinolds and Larson.
The 40 kart Box Stock turnout included two of Lakeport's best, Trevor Cristiani and Cody Martin along with usual Chico racer Zachary Heinz from Nevada. Nicholas Bellamy was quick timer at 10.089 and fourth year racer Hill ranked second at 10.119. Seth Nunes clicked off a 10.173 and Mittry ranked fourth at 10.202. Mittry beat Hill and Jesse Taylor in the dash. The larger field forced a five heat format so only the top two in each heat advanced this week. Bellamy won the first heat ahead of Anderson and Jesse Red outraced Hill in heat 2. Point leader Keith Bloom Jr missed the move forward with a third. Doug Kennemore and Nunes were 1-2 in heat 3 and Mittry edged out Jacob Miller in heat 4. Jonathan Hoheisel won heat 5 ahead of Cycleland champion Brad Patchen. Bloom lost some of his strong point lead when he ran 13th in the B Main to end his day. Six transfers from the B Main were winner R J Johnson, Andy Menne, J Taylor, Tyler Reddick, Derek Kennemore and Raymond Close. Derek Kennemore had a busy day as he ran second behind Nunes in the D Main, then won the C Main ahead of Eureka's Riley King and Reddick. Riley Gomes advanced from both with a third in the D and a fourth in the C. Because their racing is so clean, the Box Stocks are allowed to have 16 kart features and Hill drove to the exciting A Main win ahead of Jenkins, Anderson, Bellamy, J Taylor, Menne, Reddick, Patchen and Mittry.
K Bell continued her incredible time trial efforts as she paced the 28 Beginner Box Stocks with a 11.376. That easily paced the 11.635 of second quick Allison and earned her fast time honors for the 9th time in 10 races. Jake Morgan was third quick at 11.669 and the other 11 second runners were Tony Marcos, Thomas Bellamy and Logan Taylor. T Bellamy won the dash ahead of Morgan and Allison. Bell rebounded from an early crash in the first heat race to finish second behind winner winner Bellamy. Allison and Wesley Dougherty were 1-2 in heat 2 and T Seavey beat Morgan in heat 3. David Lee won heat 4 ahead of Marcos. With just 8 karts advancing from the heat action, four transfer spots were available in the B Main. L Taylor won that ahead of Majdic, Cameron Bartlett and Lakeport dominator James Edens. L Taylor had earlier won the C Main ahead of Edens, Cody Grant and Lakeport racer Kyle Tellstrom. K Bell lined up 4th for the A Main and drove through several incidents to score her big win. T Seavey and Allison both stayed close in the point duel as T Seavey ran second with Allison 4th behind Majdic. L Taylor ran fifth ahead of Morgan, Marcos and David Lee.
With an 11 kart turnout, the new F200 class got to run a two heat format. Most of the competitors in this class are adults, but 13 year old Alyssa Hogan posted quick time with her 10.819 lap. Point leader Marshall ran a 10.903 and Jeremy Zirkle was third quick at 10.964. Marshall beat Kenny Bellamy and Gary Gabel in the dash. M Larson won the first heat ahead of Gabel and Hogan while Marshall beat Keaven Seavey and Baker in heat 2. Baker was only 8th quick in time trials, but he charged to another feature win ahead of 9th quick Larson, Marshall, Bellamy, Zirkle and Hogan.
