RED BLUFF, Calif. -- Having combined with his legendary father Roger Gannon to completely dominate the tour late model action at Shasta Speedway in 2003, young Steven Gannon used a feature win in Saturday night's 30 lap A Main for the Open Outlaw Karts to climb into second place in points for the Red Bluff Indoor Winter Season. After a two week break for the annual Bull Sale, the season will close with events on the first three Saturdays in February and Gannon will start that final month of action 77 points behind defending track champion Brian McCain. McCain was fourth this night behind runnerup Pete Johnston and third place Ryan Foster. Having nearly matched the track record efforts of B McCain in the previous events, young Justin Reinolds from Paradise turned a lot of heads when he clicked off an all-time track record with his 8.175 lap in time trials. After second place finishes in both the dash and his heat, Reinolds won the Open Intermediate A Main to improve his points lead to 74 points over Oregon long tow Chadd Noland. Noland was third in the feature race behind 4th ranked point racer Brent Hamilton.

While B McCain's time was overshadowed by the incredible lap of Reinolds, he did manage to again set fast time for the 48 Open Outlaws with a 8.251 effort. Foster ran a 8.294, Matt Menne a 8.300, Johnston a 8.312 and S Gannon ranked fifth with his 8.335. Also breaking into the 8.3 bracket were David Wilson, Sean Becker and Cycleland champion Daniel Becker. B McCain came from last starting to win the dash ahead of Johnston and Wilson. The field was split into the usual five heat format with the top 2 finishers in each advancing into the A Main. B McCain is a master point racer in the QRC house kart and he continued his domination of heat 1 with a win ahead of Beau Perkins and younger brother Tyler McCain. S Becker beat Foster in heat 2 and Shelby Blaisdell returned to action with a win in heat 3 over Michael Hubert III. Johnston had another great night as he won heat 4 over Eureka's Troy Combs and D Becker. Michael Tarter won heat 5 and S Gannon managed to transfer with a fifth. Four spots were available in the B Main and winged sprint car racer M Menne won that ahead of D Becker, Kyle Cattanach and T McCain. Just missing transfers were Tyler Wolf and third ranked Robbie Whitchurch. Earlier, Whitchurch had won the C Main ahead of Ryan Schuppert and Shawn Amos. Santa Rosa's Kirk Simpson won the D Main ahead of returning Eric Mostin and Clarence Reddick. Keith Hill was the E Main winner ahead of Jasen Webb and Josh Chartier. It was a rare instance of four of the five fastest qualifiers advancing through the heat action and that put S Gannon on the front row with the five kart inversion. He charged to the main event win ahead of Johnston, Foster, B McCain and Perkins. Cattanach was sixth ahead of D Becker, M Tarter, Hubert and M Menne as S Becker was the first kart of the 30 lapper. After the two week break, B McCain will begin the February action with a 77 point lead on S Gannon, 94 ahead of Whitchurch, 107 in front of Johnston and 154 ahead of Foster.

Reinolds' incredible lap paced the 18 Open Intermediates and Hamilton was second quick at 8.383. Noland drove his 250 to third quick at 8.458 and Brett Miller ran a 8.462.Sixth fast Garrett Mills won the dash over Reinolds and Noland. Micah Parmer won heat 1 over Reinolds and Adam Main. Mills enjoyed great early action with a win in heat 2 over Cody Braund and Hamilton. The larger field required a B Main with the top five in each heat advancing joined by four transfers from the B Main. Tyler Ritcheson won the B Main ahead of Jerryd Stanley, Alex Cartwright and Adrian Betournay. Red hot Reinolds won the A Main ahead of Hamilton, Noland, Mills, Braund, Reyna Krueger, Parmer and Steven Rogers. Reinolds has improved his point lead to 74 points ahead of Noland. B Miller is 39 points back of Noland and 29 ahead of Hamilton. Fifth ranked Parmer is 154 points back of Reinolds.
