RED BLUFF, Calif. -- The two week schedule break for the annual bull sale didn't cool off Steven Gannon as he raced to his second straight 30 lap Open Outlaw Kart A Main win Saturday night as the Red Bluff Indoor Winter Season started it's final three weeks of competition. The win solidified Gannon's hold onto second in points, as he pulled 38 points ahead of third ranked Pete Johnston, but remains 80 points behind point leader and defending track champion Brian McCain. Robbie Whitchurch pulled within two points of Johnston by coming from 14th starting to finish second behind Gannon. Sean Becker was third and B McCain finished fourth. A real oddity found the top ten in points all qualifying for the 14 kart A Main in the 44 kart turnout. Having established a new all-time track record in the previous race, Justin Reinolds again outtimed everyone as he paced the Open Intermediate division time trials, but he had to settle for second place in the feature behind Southern Oregon star Chadd Noland, who wheels a 250 cc machine in the 500 cc division. Noland is also second in points, 70 behind Reinolds and 56 ahead of Brett Miller.

B McCain saw his string of fast times end as Johnston paced the 44 kart Open Outlaw turnout with a 8.359 run. B McCain did rank second at 8.411 and Matt Menne, S Becker and Bryan Eady also broke into the 8.4 second bracket. The 34 fastest karts were all in the 8's. Johnston came from dead last to take dash honors with S Becker second ahead of B McCain. The five heat format again transferred just the top two finishers in each heat into the 30 lap A Main. Johnston settled for a fifth in heat 1 as Daniel Becker beat Ryan Foster. B McCain kept his incredible heat race record going by winning heat 2 over Kyle Cattanach. Tyler Wolf and David Wilson were 1-2 in heat 3 and S Becker beat Gannon in heat 4. Beau Perkins and Jason Webb transferred out of heat 5. The final four A Main slots are determined in the B Main and that race was again filled with heavy hitters. Menne beat Tyler McCain and C Main winner Johnston battled from 11th starting to finish third ahead of Whitchurch. Just missing the transfers were Josh Chartier, Shawn Amos and Jason Schuppert. Whitchurch and Schuppert had chased Johnston to the checkered flag in the C Main. Michael Hubert III won the D Main ahead of Tyler Schohr and Troy Combs, but was the first kart eliminated in the C Main action. Gannon had timed in 9th quick and being the fifth fastest qualifier to advance through the heat action put him up front in the A Main grid. He raced to the win ahead of backrow starter Whitchurch, S Becker, B McCain, Perkins, Foster, Wilson and Cattanach. Whitchurch had the quickest lap in the race with a 8.928 effort as both S Becker and Gannon had laps in the 8 second bracket. Foster is fifth in points ahead of S Becker and Cycleland champion D Becker with just events on Feb 14 and Feb 21 remaining on the 2003-2004 schedule.

Reinolds just nipped Johnston's time with a 8.352 as he paced the 20 Open Intermediates. Brent Hamilton ran a 8.370 and Garrett Mills was third at 8.437. Noland ranked fourth at 8.580 and Micah Parmer ran a 8.594. Parmer beat Mills and Noland in the dash. The top five in the two heat races advanced into the A Main. Reinolds won heat 1 over Brett Miller and Mills. Noland won heat 2 ahead of Chris Webber and Hamilton. 125 star Mason Moore did double duty after making his Open debut in Chico during the Red Bluff schedule break. He timed in 8th quick, but parked the kart for the night after an 8th place heat run. Tyler Ritcheson won the B Main ahead of Cody Braund, Steven Rogers and Jacob Carlos. Noland won the A Main as he fought off the challenge of Reinolds. Parmer ran third ahead of Nevada's Tom Purcell, Braund, Miller, Reyna Krueger and Ritcheson. Reinolds had the fastest main event lap at 8.876 and Noland's quick lap was a 8.967. With his finish, Parmer got within 7 points of Hamilton in their duel for fourth in points. Braund is fifth in points.
