Saturday, October 19, 2002 Becker and Hubert III win at Red Bluff opener

(Oct. 19, 2002) - Daniel Becker outraced Ryan Foster and brother Sean Becker to win the 25 lap Open Outlaw A Main as the Red Bluff Indoor Winter Season opened for the outlaw karts Saturday night. Michael Hubert III moved into the Open Intermediate division and won their A Main ahead of Cycleland champion Quintin Crye and Chad Widener. After earlier setting fast time and winning the dash, Nic Helwig raced to a win in the Intermediate 125 class with division newcomer Mason Moore second ahead of Brett Miller. The Pro Box Stock champion at Cycleland, Brian Southers from Paradise won the Box Stock A Main ahead of Jesse Red and Cycleland Box Stock champion Kyle Larson. Having gained a lot of experience by racing in two divisions all summer long in Lakeport, Tyler Reddick from Corning won both the dash and A Main for the Beginner Box Stocks. Casey McClain was second ahead of Tristan Miller.
The Open Outlaws had 57 karts on hand and Cycleland champion Ryan Kaplan paced time trials with his 8.863 lap. S Becker had a 8.987 and Steven Gannon was the final 8 second kart at 8.991. Kyle Cattanach and Clint York rounded out the fast five. Oregon’s Brandon Farquhar won the dash from the pole with Gannon second ahead of Cattanach. The fastest 50 karts were divided into five heat races with only the top two finishers advancing into the A Main. Kevin Majdic beat Kaplan in heat 1 with S Becker the second heat winner over Tyler McCain. Gannon beat D Becker in heat 3 and Foster won heat 4 ahead of Brian McCain. Scott Heninger beat newcomer Dannie Ferro in heat 5. The final four A Main starters were determined in the B Main with Cattanach the winner ahead of York, C W Tiner and Pete Johnston. Just missing the transfer was Jaime Becker, sister of both Daniel and Sean Becker. Lakeport’s Eric Mostin ran sixth. Tiner had advanced through the C Main where he ran second to road race expert Bryan Eady. Aaron Colburn was third ahead of J Becker. David Fowler won the D Main with David Tarter second. Mitch Mootz beat Kyle Hirst in the E Main. In the 25 lap A Main, D Becker finished 1/3 of a second in front of Foster with S Becker another 1/3 second back in third. B McCain was fourth ahead of Gannon, Heninger, Kaplan, York and Cattanach.
Michael Tarter was the fastest of 25 Open Intermediates with his 8.846 lap that was quicker than any of the adult racers. Justin Reinolds ranked second at 9.062 and Crye had a 9.076. David Wilson and Widener rounded out the top five. Cody Braund beat Widener in the dash. The field was split into three heat races with the top 3 in each advancing. Hubert won the first heat with Tarter second ahead of David Taylor. Taylor Simas edged out Widener in heat 2 and Crye won heat 3 ahead of Michael Helwig and Danny Tompkins. The final 3 A Main karts came from the B Main where Garet Morton won ahead of Reinolds and Matt Menne. Hubert drove to the A Main win with Crye second ahead of Widener, Tarter, Morton, Menne, Taylor and Reinolds.
Steven Rogers paced the 27 125’s in time trials just ahead of Alan Ambers, Oregon’s Chadd Noland and Cycleland champion Matt DiBenedetto. Nic Helwig won the dash from the pole with Napa’s Richard Bailey second ahead of Noland. Again, three heat races with three transfers. Nevada’s Tom Purcell won the first heat ahead of Moore with Bailey on top of heat 2. Brett Miller beat N Helwig in heat 3. Noland, Chris Webber and Austin Kerns were the three transfers from the B Main. Eleven year old N Helwig was chased to his A Main win by Moore, B Miller, Webber, DiBenedetto, Noland, Purcell, Rogers and Derek O’Bannon.
Keith Bloom Jr paced the 37 Box Stocks with his 9.936 qualifying run. Thomas Bruckenstein ran a 9.963 and Derek Kennemore was third quick at 10.040. The 11 year old Southers was fifth quick and ran third in the dash behind winner Dillon Silverman and Raymond Close. The track allows this class to start 16 karts in their A Main so the four heat races each transfer three forward. Southers beat Nevada’s Hunter Colodny in heat 1 with Robert Topham beating Mackena Bell in heat 2. Doug Kennemore and William Patchen paced heat 3. Jonny Lentz beat Jesse Red in heat 4. The B Main field also battled for four transfer spots with Close the winner ahead of Silverman, Derek Copeland and Derek Kennemore as fast timer Bloom just missed. Bloom had won the C Main ahead of Derek Kennemore and Shane Theis. Southers won the A Main with Red second ahead of Kyle Larson, Doug Kennemore, Silverman, Derek Kennemore, Close, Copeland and Colodny.
There were 38 Beginner Box Stocks to give the five division show 184 competitors. Reddick won the dash with Tyler Seavey second. In this class, just two karts advance out of each of the four heat races. Nevada’s Kelloy Bell won the first heat with Cameron Bartlett second. Jesse Taylor and Donnie Wonder were 1-2 in heat 2 and Wyatt Finley beat Reddick in heat 3. Jacob Miller outran Braedon Enos in heat 4. The B Main moves the top 4 into the A Main with McClain winning ahead of Kaylee Eiler, Tristan Miller and Jake Morgan. Jason Mittry beat Nicholas Bellamy in the C Main and Trevor Tennison won the D Main with Kenny Allen second. Reddick won the 25 lap A Main with only second place McClain and third place T Miller staying on the lead lap with him. Eiler ran fourth ahead of Bell, J Miller, Taylor and Morgan.
