RED BLUFF, Calif. (Feb. 8, 2003) - The winter indoor outlaw kart action in Red Bluff resumed after a couple weekend break with Pete Johnston winning the Open Outlaw A Main event. Defending champion Sean Becker kept his track title hopes alive with a 2nd place run as point leader Brian McCain ran 14th. S Becker is 25 points back of B McCain with just the Feb 15th season closer remaining. With just the one race remaining, the Open Intermediate championship fight is still a five way duel. Justin Reinolds won the A Main and stands third just 25 points back of point leader Michael Hubert III. Hubert ran 12th and holds just a five point lead over David Wilson, who ran 13th. Steven Rogers collected his first feature win in the 125 Intermediate class and climbed into fifth place in points. Oregon's Chadd Noland ran second and stands just 26 points back of point leader Matt DiBenedetto, who ran third. Brett Miller placed 9th and dropped 19 points behind DiBenedetto. The Box Stock title fight will also go down to the final night as Keith Bloom Jr won the A Main and stands just 7 points behind season long point leader Brian Southers. Southers was 7th and the third player in the title fight, Jonny Lentz ran 6th and is 31 points out of first. Jason Mittry from Redding had a huge night in the Beginner Box Stock action as he won his heat and the A Main after posting fast time. Only a second in the dash kept him from perfection. Tyler Reddick used a second place finish to increase his point lead to 23 points over Casey McClain, who ran 10th. Another huge 170 kart turnout competed with several visitors from the idled Lakeport track. The night's racing was sponsored by Wade Lentz's NAPA Auto Parts and each of the five feature winners received a Bag of Gold award.

S Becker was the fastest of the 44 Open Outlaws with his 8.882 qualifying run. Previous race winner Mitch Mootz ran a 8.966 and Ryan Kaplan was the final 8 second qualifier at 8.995. B McCain was sixth quick behind Kyle Cattanach and Ryan Foster and he won the dash ahead of Foster and S Becker. They elected to expand the A Main grid to 16 karts this week, taking three transfers from each of four heat races. Todd Carmichael beat Foster in heat 1 and B McCain charged to a win in heat 2 over Robbie Whitchurch. Steven Gannon and Johnston ran 1-2 in heat 3 and C W Tiner beat Bubba Hill in heat 4. The final four slots in the A Main were determined in the B Main and Kaplan won with S Becker second ahead of Cattanach and Tyler McCain. Oregon's Richard Weststeyn just missed the move forward in 5th and Nevada's Jay Dargert was 6th. Cattanach had won the C Main in front of female racer Jaime Becker and Mootz, who took D Main honors ahead of Tyler Schaaf. Daniel Becker dropped from point title contention as he couldn't advance out of the C Main this week. Johnston was chased to his A Main win by S Becker, Tiner, Gannon, Kaplan, Carmichael, Whitchurch, Kyle Hirst, Clint York and B Hill. J Reinolds made the cut with a fifth in his heat and was the A Main winner ahead of Tarter, M Helwig, Braund, Chad Widener, J Weststeyn, Parmer and VanKeuren. Hubert's point lead is five over Wilson, 25 ahead of Reinolds, 28 in front of Crye and 37 ahead of Parmer.

The 125's had their biggest turnout of the 2002-2003 season with 32 karts in action including the division debut of Box Stock star Derek Copeland. Oregon's Noland paced time trials with a 8.975 lap and DiBenedetto ranked second at 9.036. Lakeport regular Bradley Terrell was third quick at 9.083. Brett Miller saw his string of fast times snapped as he ran fourth quick at 9.186. Sixth quick Mason Moore won the dash ahead of fifth quick Alan Ambers. The field was split into three large heat races with the top four in each advancing. Napa's Richard Bailey won heat 1 with Nevada's Tom Purcell second. DiBenedetto and Cody Miller were 1-2 in heat 2 and improving Christopher Phillips won heat 3 ahead of Rogers. Young Lakeport Box Stock graduate Andrew Wiley made his Red Bluff debut with a win in the C Main ahead of Cameron Mendes and Brandey Eiler.
