Saturday night June 2, saw another great night of exciting dirt track racing as four drivers took their first win in 2012 and two of those four took their first Ventura win ever. First time winners included Dennis Eckert in IMCA Modifieds and Zachary Peterson in Sport Compacts.

In Sprint car action Clark Templeman III took his first VRA 360 Sprint Car race win of the 2012 season Saturday night June 2. He came from the 15th to catch and pass Brian Camarillo on lap 27. Camarillo led lap 28 but had motor issues on the restart and Templeman took the lead back and went on to take the win in another exciting wide open night of sprint car action. Following Templeman across the line were Kyle Smith, Bruce Douglass, Tom Hendricks and Jeremy Ellertson. The night saw three heat races run, with wins going to Jeremy Ellertson in the Extreme Muffler Heat One, Victor Davis in the LRB Manufacturing Heat Two and Brian Camarillo in BR Motorsports Heat Three. Smith's second place finish in the feature keeps him out front in the season long battle to see who will be VRA Champ in 2012 by 100 points over Brian Camarillo after six races.

IMCA Modifieds resumed their 2012 season with an eight car field. Dennis Eckert took his first Ventura win over Jack Parker, Donald Houghton, Brad Prows and Mark Davis. Heat race wins went to Dennis Eckert in the Extreme Muffler Heat One and Jack Parker in the Speedway Engineering Heat Two. Jack Parker leads the series by 7 points over Brad Prows after 6 races.

VRA Senior Sprints raced Saturday night with heat race wins going to Wally Pankratz in Spin Tech Mufflers Heat One and Clif Warren in LRB Manufacturing Heat Two. The 20 lap feature went to Bruce Douglass followed by his team mate Victor Davis. Following Douglass and Davis to the line in a green white checker race were Clif Warren, Wally Pankratz and Leroy Anderson. Victor Davis continues to lead the point race by 105 over Clif Warren after 5 races in the 2012 season.

VENTURA, Calif. -- VRA Go-Karts continued their season with two heat races and their 15 lap feature all on the big track going to Richard Renken followed by Mike Evans, Justin Raper Johnny Conely and Kenny Byers Jr. The two heat races went to Mike Evans and Matt Jones. After four races Kenny Byers Jr. leads the point race by 25 points over Cody Nigh.

The final adult group racing Saturday was our VRA Sport Compact class. Zachary Peterson took his first ever win in his number 96. Following him across the line were Mike Stanford, James Adler, Michaela Stanton and Brad Long. One heat race was run with the win going to Jess Carlucci. Jess Carlucci continues to lead the season point race by 20 points over James Adler and Peterson, who’s win tied him with Adler for second.

Ventura Raceway returns next Saturday June 9 with its second motorcycle race of the season. Last race saw 175 riders race in 22 classes on the oval, road course and motocross course...
