Thursday, May 6, 2010 Race Fans Can Taste Authentic German Bratwurst at Dover Int'l Speedway on Race Weekend
by Gary CampDOVER, Del. -- Race fans coming to Dover International Speedway can always expect to experience a carnival-like atmosphere, with the sounds of live music, the thrill of roaring engines, and now the smell and taste of authentic German bratwurst courtesy of German master butcher Willi Wenzel. “Willi’s Original Brats” will be available for sale throughout the May 14-16, 2010 race weekend at the Monster Mile and fans will be able to sink their teeth in to savory brats made from meat originating in Kent County, Del. with spices shipped directly from Germany. At the “Willi’s Original Brats” concession stand located near Gate 1 behind the frontstretch grandstands, fans can order a regular quarter-pound brat or a curry seasoned, full-flavored brat along with French fries and a variety of mustards and hot sauces. Adjacent to the bratwurst stand, the Speedway will sell Beck’s beer, a pale lager, to complete the authentic German meal. “Willi’s Original Brats” is a joint effort between fellow Germans Willi Wenzel and Peter Ulrich, and their efforts have been supported by Dan Wolfensberger, CEO of the Kent Economic Partnership, who recommended that they share their delicious German bratwurst recipe with the tens of thousands of race fans coming to the track on race weekend. Wenzel works out of the Haass’ Family Butcher Shop in Dover, where he crafts handmade brats using his own imported spices. Rolls for the brats are provided by the Frankfurt Bakery, also located in Dover. Great seats still remain for the May 14-16, 2010 race weekend at Dover International Speedway.
