ST. JOHNS, Pa. -- As it was the night before, mother nature tried to put handcuffs on the 3rd running of the Street Stock Shootout at Mountain Speedway. A brief shower that passed through the area just as the drivers meeting was concluding, slightly delayed the start of time trials.

As the top qualifier, current division points leader Scott Meckes, sat on the pole and held the early lead. Brad Kline was 2nd, then lost the spot to Robert Geibel.

On the 2nd restart on lap 17, Geibel got the jump from the outside, to take over the lead. Meckes held 2nd for a couple laps, then loosing the spot to Kline.

For the remainder of the 1st half of the race, Geibel paced the field, followed by Kline and Meckes. Todd Ahner moved up steadily through the field, holding 4th, while R.J. Zacharias rebounded from and early spin for 5th. The timed pit stop at halfway was extended to allow drivers more time to get plenty of fluids in before restarting.

The 2nd half of the race ran pretty much like the 1st half. Geibel lead Kline and Meckes around the track. Zacharias got around Ahner for 4th. In a long green flag run, the top 5 were nose to tail, as they made their way around lapped traffic.

The final caution fell on lap 91, when some water from the infield was kicked on the the track in turn 4. On the restart, Geibel led the final laps to the checkered. After the race Geibel grabbed the checkered flag and made a polish victory lap on his way to victory lane.

Having made the haul the day before, Geibel ran in the Mountain’s regular Saturday night program. “The track was wet last night. I just wanted to see where my car ran good”, said Geibel in victory lane.

Kline managed to hang on for 2nd, despite have mechanical problem. “The rear end was starting to burn up, and there was an oil leak”, said Kline.

Meckes was 3rd, followed by Zacharia. Mike Sweeney improved a couple spots late in the race, finishing 5th.
