Thompson Picks up First Win in 600 Feature; Cox Wins Second 270 Feature of Year

HANOVER, Pa. -- “We’ve really been struggling keeping the car together here, so this feels great,” exclaimed an excited Larry Thompson after exiting his Baker Motorsports sponsored #77 600cc Micro Sprint.

Thompson started on the pole of the 20 lap feature and took the lead on the start over Brett Widener. A caution for JD Harman, Brad Weber, and Todd Hoover occurred in turn one before the first lap was completed causing a complete restart. Thompson once again took the lead, but the field was slowed again with one lap down for Josh Mehring who came to a stop after contact with Chase Dietz.

Thompson pulled away from the rest of the field to claim his first career win at Trail-Way Speedway with a 4.28-second margin of victory over Widener.

“We’ve been working hard” said Thompson of the season so far. Bo Gordon crossed third with Shawn Seifert fourth. Points leader and defending feature winner Chase Dietz completed the top five.

Sixth through tenth were Travis Scott, Brad Weber, Hannah Riser, Todd Hoover, and Josh Mehring. Heats for the 17 600cc Micro Sprints were won by Thompson and Widener.

Points leader Steven Cox claimed his second win of the season in his Veracity Title, LLC #58 in the 20-lap 270cc Micro Sprint feature.

But it was polesitter Joe Long, Jr. who lead the first 15 laps before his machine broke bringing out the first caution of the event. Cox started fourth but wasted no time getting to the front of the field.

“With the guys who are running here, you can’t waste any time. I saw the opening on the start and passed everyone clean.” explained Cox in victory lane. In fact, Cox had secured the second spot by the completion of lap one. From there, he set his sights on Long.

“I think I could have caught [Long], but catching people and passing them is something different.”

So Cox inherited the lead with five laps remaining and held off Matt Campbell and Jim Still who finished second and third. Colton Young and Alex Spalding completed the top five.
The heat for the 8 270cc Micro Sprints was won by Young.

Jim Young started on the pole and took the lead on the start of the 20-lap 1000cc Sidewinder Sprint feature. Jared Esh challenged Young for the first several laps before Young pulled away from the field.

“I was trying to hit my marks and stick to the bottom where they couldn’t go.” said Young in victory lane after exiting his Adam’s Performance sponsored #8, “That’s the advantage of a 600, the corner speed.”

Young had a 1.09 second lead over Esh, who was unfortunately light at the scales, at the finish. Seth Kearchner was awarded second with Mike Zielonis, Zach Overmiller, and Brandon Yarlett completed the top five.
Heats were won by Young and Brad Gleason.

Joe Snodgrass picked up the win in the 20-lap Classic Car feature. Snodgrass started fourth and took the lead from Bill Marinelli on lap 6 after Marinelli slid high in turn two.

Marinelli challenged Snodgrass for the lead over the remainder of the race, but was never able to make a pass and settled for second. Third though fifth were Pete Neal, Kurt Welsh, and Matt Wallace.

Snodgrass shattered a 7-year track record in the nonstop feature with a time of 6 minutes, 27.59 seconds.
Heats for the 14 Classic Cars were won by Marinelli and Neal.

Shawn Crunkilton took the lead from Brad Kress on lap two of the 12-lap Scramble Car feature. The race went flag to flag and Crunkilton set a new track record with a time of 4 minutes, 14.69 seconds.
Kress finished second with Tyler Gastley and John Shorb, Jr. rounding out the field.

Terry Hartlaub held off Nick McDaniel to claim his second win in the 15-lap Limited Stocks feature. Hartlaub was actually sideways exiting turn four with two laps to go, but he was able to save the car and pulled ahead of McDaniel at the line.

Shawn Crunkilton crossed third with Sarah Redmond and Jimmy Tyson rounding out the top five.
The win also gave Hartlaub the points lead.
