CANANDAIGUA, N.Y.-- For the third week in a row Canandaigua Speedway, racers, fans and officials have been battling the weather. Last Saturday afternoon rains soaked the speedway, causing very wet conditions especially in the first and second turns. The weather forecast was for even more rain early into the evening and then scattered thunderstorms till midnight.

"That's not how we want to race at Canandaigua, dodging rain drops all night," stated Jeff Fanrey, general manager.

The races were called off around 3 p.m. in the afternoon to allow time to contact as many people as possible.

The double DIRT Modified and Street Stock features will now be the first events on the program for this Saturday, May 22. The modifieds must first run a last chance consolation race to fill out the feature field.

The twice rain delayed DIRT Sportsman and Pro-Stock features have now been rescheduled to Saturday, June 5. This was done to allow the "DIRT Sportsman and Patriot Sprint Car exchange" between Canandaigua Speedway and Black Rock Speedway to take place on Saturday, May 29.

This makes for three great Saturdays in a row of racing at Canandaigua. Double modified and street stock features this Saturday, Sprint Car and the Taney Memorial 50 for DIRT Modifieds on the 29th and then double Sportsman and Pro-Stock features on June 2.

"We just hate it for our fans and race teams to start off the 2004 season this way," continued Farney. "It's not only Canandaigua taking a beating from the weatherman, it seems to be the entire DIRT circuit."

Race time this Saturday will be at 7 p.m. sharp. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m., with grandstand gates swinging open at 5 p.m..

Canandaigua Speedway is located just minutes east of the Village of Canandaigua, NY, at the Ontario County Fairgrounds, on County Road 10.
