Friday, July 30, 2004 Holzkamper returns victorious
by Race AuthorMUSKOGEE, Okla. -- Gentry Arkansas’#5 Steve Holzkamper returned to the Outlaw Motor Speedway in victorious fashion Friday night July 30th and only led one lap the whole night, the one that counts the most the last one. As Holzkamper took home his second Modified A-Feature win of the 2004 season at the 3/8 mile.
Holzkamper last visited and won at Outlaw Motor Speedway the first weekend in June while holding off Broken Arrow’s #52 Larry Rupe in June.
Last week winner, Choteau’s #51 Randy Frailey looked to have his second straight Modified Feature win in the bag after he overtook the lead with three laps to go from Tulsa’s #4L Steve Lacy.
Frailey jumped at the chance to cash in for his second straight win and was merely one turn away from the win until he bobbled in turn four on the final lap. Sliding high, Frailey slipped back to fourth as Holzkamper took the win and the lead.
Webb City, Missouri’s #12D Scott Drake stayed on Holzkamper’s door and nearly stole the win away, but the Arkansas product held on at the line.
Muskogee’s #1 Mike “Fuzzy” Withrow moved up to third after Frailey’s bobble after starting 10th.
Fort Smith’s #1/2 Bill Dillard took the outside pole and the quick lead on the opening lap but Lacy didn’t waste much time from his eighth starting spot to take the lead on the second lap of the 20 lap race.
Withrow moves up to second in the points standings, 18 points behind leader Muskogee’s #77 Gary Andrews, after Muskogee’s #89 Tate Cole was absent Friday night. Andrews finished sixth in the Feature race.
Lacy held the top spot until Frailey came knocking.

Brown gets first win of 2004
Fort Gibson’s #5* Mike Brown took the pole of the Late Model A-Feature and never looked back, holding off an early charge by Muskogee’s #64 Dan Leatherman and then Fort Gibson’s #27 Dan Morris to pick up his first A-Feature win of the 2004 season.
Last season Brown took home six Late Model Feature wins at the Outlaw Motor Speedway, the most of any Late Model driver, including points champion Justin Fulton. But this season in four Late Model races Brown has been held out of the winners circle, after Sallisaw’s #12 Raymond Merrill took the last non-special race.
Brown jumped into the lead with the Leatherman on his bumper, that was until Leatherman’s Tonto Construction Late Model exited on lap eight.
Morris assumed the runner-up role behind Brown after Leatherman left and held the second spot ahead of Keefton’s #42 Eldon Bales.
Bales held off #98 Joe Conway for the third spot as Conway held off #13 Tahlequah’s Dan Pablo.

Reheard finds his groove
Muskogee’s #72 Shannon Reheard finally got the opportunity he needed on the last Friday night in July at Outlaw Motor Speedway.
Reheard snuck past leader Muskogee’s #17 Heath Weston on the third lap of the Economy Modified A-Feature, then held off points leader and dominator Porter’s #57 Carl Conley II for his first Economy Modified A-Feature win of the 2004 season.
Reheard started in the third spot and has been knocking on the door of a top three finish all year long, but mechanical problems and set up misses have cost him at a change at the visit to victory lane.
Weston stole the lead away from pole sitter #52 Jordan Morgan on the opening lap of the Feature race and looked to be the man to beat on the tacky track until Reheard charged behind.
Reheard and Weston duked it out with Weston retaking the lead by lap six but spun two laps later, collecting second place car at the time Coweta’s #1 Donne Crowe in turn four.
Reheard assumed the lead, with points leader Conley hot on his tail.
Conley grabbed the lead on lap 13 and held it until Reheard snagged the lead position again two laps later.
Conley stayed on Reheard’s bumper the remaining five laps waiting for his shot to pick up his 10th win of the season but Reheard didn’t fold. Holding strong with a battle to the line coming out of turn four Reheard took the win.
Two rookie’s Tahlequah’s #117 Jason Teague and Muskogee’s #9 Nik Morgan waged a war of their own as the two battled to the end for the third and fourth spot respectively.
Teague had the faster car for third and Morgan took fourth, the best finish by either driver this season.

Flock edges witcher at the line
Muskogee’s #9 Kevin Flock used all 20 laps to accomplish his mission Friday night July 30th at Outlaw Motor Speedway.
Flock stole the lead away from Decatur Arkansas’ #26 Tim Witcher on the last lap, coming out of turn four and beat him in a drag race to the finish line for his second Factory Stock A-Feature win of the 2003 season.
Flocks other win came on the first week of June.
Tahlequah’s #K5 Kurt Rogers jumped into the lead position, after taking the pole position, and held the top spot until Witcher came knocking on his bumper.
Flock overtook Rogers on lap eight for his first lead of the night but Witcher stepped up two laps later for the lead with 10 laps to go.
Flock stayed on Witcher’s tail until making his move on the last lap.
Rogers tried to keep his nose in the mix for the lead but couldn’t crack the top two and had to settle for third while holding off points leader Muskogee’s #36 Gary Snyder.
Snyder quietly made his way up to the front of the pack after starting ninth, beside Flock.

Hogan patience picks up second win in three weeks
Tahlequah’s #7N Jeff Hogan will take a win any way he can get it.
Picking up his second Pure Stock A-Feature win in three weeks, Hogan has found that running up front can be profitable, and so can being patient.
As the white flag flew Muskogee’s #6 James Gillean and Muskogee’s #1 Tony Combs battled it out for the top spot coming out of turn two Hogan lurked two spots back.
On the final lap in turn two, Gillean slid high as Combs dove low, the two got together and slipped back as Hogan stepped up for the lead role.
Gillean had lead all but one lap leading up to the final lap of the race after starting sixth.
Tony’s brother #00 Lynn Combs took the led on the opening lap with Gillean in close tow.
Hogan was running fourth at the time of the contact with Gillean and Combs on the last lap as points leader #11 Duane Armstrong was holding down third.
Armstrong moved up to second with the shuffle and Checotah’s #8B Andy Burnett stole third with Tahlequah’s #10x Jason Ward in fourth.
Gillean recovered, but dropped back to fifth.
