Golobic, Day and Furr Resume Ocean Sprints Points Battle Friday

WATSONVILLE, Calif. -- Fremont's Shane Golobic will look to continue his run towards the 2012 Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo championship on Friday night, when the series resumes after a one-week layoff. Golobic narrowly leads 2011 champion Ronnie Day of Salinas by just 14 points in the series standings with Stockton's Brad Furr on their heels in the third spot.

Remarkably, Golobic leads the standings in Steve Osborne's GetSomSports.com #9J despite going winless on the season. Golobic's season has been marked by consistency and multiple "near-misses" for getting to the top of the podium.

When the Ocean Sprints last raced, Golobic charged from seventh to second place but was unable to overcome eventual race winner Tommy Tarlton for the lead. Golobic eventually finished fourth on the night to go along with his average finish of third on the season.

Day, second in points in the Keith Day Trucking #22, has two feature wins and two DNFs this season to trail Golobic narrowly. Third in the points, Brad Furr has taken the Price Rite Restaurant Equipment #2 to five top-fives this season but is also looking for his first win.

The balance of the top-ten in the standings includes Gilroy's Kurt Nelson, San Martin's "Cowboy" Craig Smith, San Jose's Nick Green, Salinas rookie Jason Chisum, San Jose's Ryan Rusconi, Salinas' Carter Train, and opening night feature winner Bud Kaeding.

Friday's races for the Ocean Sprints will also include racing for the Four Bangers, American Stocks, Sport Mods, and Wingless Sprints. Adult tickets are just $17 with seniors 65+ $15 and kids ages 6-12 are $13. The family pass for two adults and two children is value priced at just $55. Qualifying will get underway at 6 p.m. with fan gates opening at 4:30 p.m.
