Friday, August 17, 2012 Bacon Sizzles at Creek County
 by Lonnie Wheatley
SAPULPA, Okla. -- Broken Arrow, Oklahoma’s Brady Bacon took advantage of a rare race close to home to snare his sixth Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MavTV National Tour win of the year in Friday night’s 30-lap main event at Creek County Speedway.
While Bacon took the National win, Leroy Cook, Jr., took over the A Modified points lead with his first feature win of the year while Tommy Romine cracked victory lane as the Factory Stocks took to the ¼-mile clay oval for the first time this year.
Returning to the tight oval where he turned an abundance of his formative Sprint Car laps, Bacon battled past pole starter Aaron Reutzel in the opening handful of circuits and never looked back en route to capturing his 11th career ASCS National win aboard the Wesmar-powered Fatheadz Eyewear/Oilfield Equipment & Manufacturing No. 99 Triple X.
“I think racing a lot here in the past helped me, we were able to use a lot of tricks to get around these little places tonight,” Bacon explained in victory lane.
Following a caution after the 18th round, Bacon held off Tennessee’s Kevin Swindell over the final circuits to secure the victory with Sunset Hills, Missouri’s Brad Loyet a close third.
“A couple too many mistakes out of the driver there or we might have made it two in a row,” Swindell explained of the final laps after capturing his first career ASCS National win one night earlier in Michael Wade’s Bishop Racing Components No. 39 entry.
With Swindell bouncing off the cushion in turns three and four, Loyet nearly capitalized before settling for the show position in the Vacuworx International No. 05. “The top three cars were all about the same speed, tonight would have been a good one for 50 laps, we were really rolling the top well.”
Johnny Herrera and Reutzel rounded out the top five, with Logan Forler, Wayne Johnson, Tony Bruce, Jr., American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region points leader Matt Covington and Mike Goodman completing the top ten.
Cook, Jr., snared his first A Modified win of the year in front of Ho Dean, with Dena Wilson, Brett Wilson and Nathan Campbell rounding out the top five.
Romine took victory honors in the first Factory Stock outing of the year at Creek County in front of Bobby Wolfe, Jimmy Owen, Grant Wresche and Jason Holt.
Action resumes at Creek County Speedway next Friday night at 8:00 p.m. with Factory Stocks and Mini Stocks added to the action. The full night of competition will include Champ Sprints, A Modifieds, Dwarf Cars, Non-Wing 600c Micro Sprint Cars, Factory Stocks and Mini Stocks.
