Wednesday, August 22, 2012 ASCS-Northwest Region Anticipates Big September Race
 by Ben Deatherage
LEBANON, Ore. -- In their first race in over a month the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region will return to the 2012 campaign trail at Willamette Speedway on Sunday September 2nd. The event will mark the first time that the series will take on the Interstate Sprint Car Series and will be a co-sanctioned event. Being that the race is co-sanctioned it will mesh together the group’s formats.
For the first time the ASCS-Northwest Region will qualify along with the ISCS cars and in addition to heat races and the main event there will be an eight-car trophy dash. With both series running together a large car count is expected to be on hand for the evening. It also will mark the final race before the championship weekend at the Yakima Dirt Track in central Washington that will take place on September 21st and 22nd.
The race will be the third time that the ASCS-Northwest series has visited Willamette Speedway in 2012. The two previous events were co-sanctioned alongside the ASCS-National Tour with both events won by Wayne Johnson. The only other driver to win more than once at Willamette under the current ASCS banner has been Roger Crockett who also has two wins. Drivers with single victories at the historic 1/3 mile include Jesse Hockett, Kyle Larson, and Logan Forler.
The Willamette Speedway has operated since the 1960’s and has been regarded as the “Late Model Capital of the Northwest” for many years and is anxious to host fans with the vast upgrades and improvements done over the 2011-12 winter. The venue will host the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series and the American Sprint Car Series-National Tour along with weekly action comprising of DirtCar Late Models, USRA Modifieds, Sportsman, Classics, and Mini Trucks.
