SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Ryan Godown of Ringoes, N.J., collected $4,000 for his win in the 35-lap Race of Champions (RoC) sanctioned “School’s Out” special at Selinsgrove Speedway Tuesday night driving the No. 747 entry.

Bob Bussey of Northumberland took the checkered flag for the fifth time this year in the 15-lap roadrunner race.

Selinsgrove Speedway will be back in action at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, June 23, with a four division program of 358 sprints, late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners sponsored by PEPSI. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.

On the initial start of the modified feature, second-place starter Kevin Albert drifted into the first turn wall and was able to rejoin the field. For the restart, original third-place starter Brett Hearn joined polesitter Duane Howard on the front row; Howard won the race into the first turn to lead the first lap.

On a lap two double-file restart, Hearn took command of the field and fifth-place starter Ryan Godown followed him into second. The field was regrouped again when the caution flag unfurled on lap six. Godown secured the lead on the lap seven restart and led for the duration of the event.

By lap 15, Godown had stretched his lead to a straightaway as a close battle for second unfolded between Hearn and fourth-place starter Doug Manmiller. Two laps later, seventh-place starter Stewart Friesen made it a three-car battle for the second position.

Debris on lap 22 brought out another caution flag. When the race resumed Manmiller pressured Hearn for second and took over the position in the final laps. The event’s final caution flag waved on lap 34 and set up a chase to the checkered flag between Godown and Manmiller.

At the finish, Godown was victorious by .75 of a second over Manmiller. However, both Manmiller and fourth-place finisher Hearn were disqualified when their cars failed to meet the legal weight requirements during the post-race inspection.

The top five positions were awarded to Godown, Friesen, Danny Johnson, Howard, and Jimmy Phelps.

Contingency awards went to Godown (A1 Advertising Specialties $25 fast lap; Middleburg IGA trophy; Art Bair Wheel Repair kit; and Deb Rahmer/Reid’s Tannery Promotion Products equipment bag), Manmiller (BFP Specialties $250 Body Kit Certificate), Albert (Big Diamond $200 small block bonus), and Horton (Shiley Fabrication Hard Luck Award).

Bussey started on the pole for the roadrunner feature and wired the field for the victory. He was chased by second-place starter Brian Johnson for the first three laps before slamming the fourth turn wall on lap four.

When the race resumed, Bussey set the pace with third-place starter Bruce Wyland Jr. in pursuit. On the eighth lap, Wyland got loose and allowed fifth-place starter Ricky Bender to advance to second and set his sites on Bussey.

For a one-lap chase to the checkered flag, Bussey held off Bender’s challenges and posted a mere .38 of a second margin of victory. Rounding out the top five were Matt Lawrence, Wyland, and Adam Campbell.
